The UNT Department of Political Science annually awards two (2) $1,000 scholarships based on merit to incoming students (Fall term) who intend to pursue studies in the area of politics, pre-law, or public service and who will seek a B.A. as a Political Science major. These awardees will be known as "Pender Scholars" in honor of the first chairman of the Political Science Department, J.W. "Dad" Pender. Each grantee will receive half of the award in the Fall and the other half in the Spring.

Eligibility: This award is open to high school seniors and transfer students from junior colleges or other universities who declare their intention to major in political science.

Requirements: High School seniors must rank in the top quarter of their class and have a score of at least 1100 of the SAT (or its equivalent). Transfer students must have a 3.5 GPA and a score of at least 1100 on the SAT (or its equivalent).

Application Procedures: Counselors and teachers are encouraged to bring these awards to the attention of interested students. The Students Grants and Awards Committee of the Department of Political Science distributes application forms and judges applicants. To apply for this scholarship, please fill out this form and return it to the Department of Political Science by February 15th, 2024.
