Dr. John Ishiyama (pictured below) is the recipient of several awards, including the 2017 Piper Professor Award from the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, and the UNT Foundation Faculty Leadership Award. He was also renewed as a University Distinguished Research Professor this year. Dr. Ishiyama will be recognized for his achievements at the Salute to Faculty Excellence Awards Dinner in the fall.

The Minnie Stevens Piper Professor Award honors Texas educators for their excellence in teaching and scholarship. Dr. Ishiyama is the sixth UNT faculty member to receive the honor since the its inception.

The UNT Foundation Faculty Leadership Award recognizing a faculty member who significantly impacts the academic enterprise of the university through leadership and service.

The University Distinguished Research Professorship award recognizes tenured faculty at the rank of professor who have achieved an exceptionally outstanding record of creative activities or research productivity and who demonstrate a record of continued extraordinary productivity.
